About the Court
The Perth Children's Court began under the State Children's Act 1907 and only operated within the City of Perth. They made amendments to the act and the court was then allowed to sit in the metropolitan area.
Then they passed the Children's Court of Western Australia Act 1988 and it became the Children's Court of Western Australia.
Children's Court cases are heard throughout most courthouses in Western Australia.
The Children's Court deals with young people aged 10 to 18 years who are accused of committing crimes. If they have turned 18 since the alleged crime, they will still appear before the Children's Court.
The Children's Court hears protection and care cases. These involve children who may have been removed from their parents' care. The Children's Court also deals with restraining orders involving children.
